Hospital Haven: VR & WebGL Medical Simulation
Hospital Haven is a pioneering medical simulation platform designed to modernize residency training and emergency preparedness. By leveraging the Unity engine, we have created a “digital twin” of a working hospital, allowing medical professionals to practice high-stakes procedures in a zero-risk 3D environment.
Zero-Risk Surgical Training
In medicine, mistakes are the best teacher, but they are unacceptable on real patients. Hospital Haven provides a safe, physics-based sandbox where surgeons and nurses can refine their motor skills and decision-making abilities without consequence.
Challenge & Solution
The Challenge: Traditional medical training relies heavily on observation and limited access to cadavers or expensive physical mannequins. Residents often lack the repetition needed to build muscle memory for rare but critical procedures. Furthermore, organizing team-based “Code Blue” drills is logistically difficult and disruptive to real hospital operations.
The Solution: We engineered Hospital Haven, a cross-platform simulation accessible via immersive VR hardware for tactical training and standard web browsers for cognitive learning.
Haptic Precision
Using advanced physics and haptic feedback devices, the VR module enables users to “feel” tissue resistance and instrument weight. Surgeons can practice incisions, suturing, and laparoscopy with sub-millimeter tracking accuracy.
Features:
- Soft-body physics for realistic tissue deformation
- Procedural complications to test adaptability
- Real-time vitals monitoring simulation
Final Result
Hospital Haven has been seamlessly integrated into the residency curriculum, bridging the gap between textbook theory and clinical practice.
30% Error Reduction
Residents who trained in the VR simulation showed a 30% reduction in procedural errors during their first live clinical performance.
500+ Hours Sim
The platform has logged over 500 hours of active surgical simulation, saving substantial costs compared to traditional cadaver labs.
Universal Access
The WebGL module enabled 100% of the nursing staff to complete mandatory protocol training from their department desks.
Hospital Haven proves that high-fidelity simulation is the future of medical education, ensuring that when the real moment comes, the team is ready.
